Pop duo, The Veronica's returned to Denver on their Gothic Summer tour in honor of the release of their new album, Gothic Summer. Special guest Jesse Jo Stark accompanied the twins as their opener, hitting twenty-two cities across the country - each location bringing special moments for the tour of woman to cherish forever.
On Wednesday, April 10th Lisa and Jessica Origliasso known as "The Veronica's" pulled up to Summit Music Hall in Denver, Colorado in a massive tour bus. Fans holding VIP tickets were already waiting in line outside as the two posted on their Instagram story with excitement of being back on tour and in Denver for the first time since 2009, giving their fans compliments on their outfits and praising them for their early arrivals as they waited to enter the venue. Just a few hours later meeting those they were closely eyeing from their bus for an in person VIP experience that included a meet and greet and a short acoustic set. A handful of unique moments took place during the meet and greet, which included a newly married couple that signed their marriage licence with the Australian twins which Jess proudly recapped later on in the night not long before their sets end.
But before The Veronica's took over the night, American pop musician Jesse Jo Stark opened the night with a captivating performance - complimenting the anticipated headliners. JJ and three of her band mates took the dimly lit stage and within seconds the venue filled with Jesse's captivating vocals. All eyes were on Stark as she danced like she was weightless back and forth across the stage in a white two piece outfit that only someone with her body would be able to pull off as beautifully as she did. Stark played a number of her most popular songs including "Pussycat", in which she asked the crowd to meow with her and her newest single "Skeletons". Jesse thanked Denver and The Veronica's for having her before she closed out her set with her last song and departing the stage after an hour long performance.
The stage crew jumped into action by clearing the stage and replacing its contents with the remainder of items for The Veronica's set. The set had already revealed a large lighting structure that sat at the very back of the stage; a large triangular shape with lights throughout the middle connected in a way that created diamonds throughout the inside, holding lights where each corner met. What seemed like a simple set up felt like forever while all of the attendees waited for the Australian duo and chatted amongst themselves in the crowd. At last, the overhead music and lights faded out and not a minute after the girls walk out looking like they just came from The Matrix. The twins both wore black and had sunglasses on - a spandex top, one with a black skirt and the other with black pants. Purple lighting illuminated behind them, accentuating even more of a bad bitch vibe between the two. These girls meant business and they were ready to give Denver an unforgettable show.
The Origliasso twins opened up with one of their most popular songs, "Take Me On the Floor" which was a perfect beginning to the night and brought instant nostalgia to their fans. Their energy was out of this world as they jumped around, shook their fists, and sang their hearts out. The crowd matched their energy perfectly and it was almost instant that every single person on the floor was dancing with them, most even singing along with them as they knew most if not all of the songs they sang. Their set went in all different directions as they collided two songs into one (Seven Nation vs When It All Falls Apart), covered popular Nirvana song "Smells Like Teen Spirit", sang five songs off their newest album, performed a few of their other popular songs such as "Hook Me Up" and "Untouched" and even threw in a handful from other albums that were released between "Untouched" (2007) & "Hook Me Up" (2008).
The Veronica's took a few moments to talk to the crowd about their experiences within the last few years and why they hadn't made music or toured in so long, explaining that other things in life had happened that prevented them from doing so. Though within that time never losing the devotion they have for music and missing everything that came with with the excitement of touring and releasing new work. They expressed their love and gratitude for their fans and thanked them for supporting them all these years, despite how quiet things had been the last few years. You could feel the genuine love and appreciation they projected, there was so much emotion in the venue between the girls and the fans that came out to see them on a Wednesday night.
The vibes that night were unreal and their show was hands down one of the best I'd been to in a while. Between their performance, the emotions, the energy of the two and the crowd, the dancing - it was unhinged in the best way possible. It's been over a week ago and I'm still buzzing from the show (and I've been to others since and those don't sit with me the way The Veronica's does). I wish I could go back and relive it again and needless to say, next time they come back to Denver you bet I'm going to be there - it's a show you can't miss.
