The Disco Biscuits Launch The "Why We Dance" Tour
I spoke with Marc Brownstein, Bassist and Founding member of The Disco Biscuits. The band is set to launch the “Why We Dance” tour on January 25th at the Casino Ballroom in Crystal Bay, Nevada. Marc is also the Co-founder of HeadCount, a non-partisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy.
MK - “For almost three decades, The Disco Biscuits have delivered so much joy to a devoted fan base. When you formed in 1995, did you have any idea the band would still be as popular and relevant as it is today?”
MB - “When I arrived at UPenn as a 17 year old I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, but by the end of my sophmore year, when we were starting to jam together, the most impactful experiences that I had had in college were around music. By that time I don’t think any of us had any other plans other than to start band and make it successful and long lasting. I’m not sure I knew how long lasting it would be. We talked about playing for 20 years until we were about 40 but we are almost 10 years past that and just getting going again.”
MK - “What excites you most about 2024?”
MB - “We are at the very beginning of a cycle of finishing and releasing two albums. Rick Rubin says the best thing for your fans is when an artist is making the art for themselves rather than trying to make something they think people will like. We have already found out that this is true with this new batch of songs, as we have been entirely focused on making the music we like, and likewise there have been a really well received heap of new songs, including 3 in the last 3 shows of the year. Developing these songs on stage and watching this cycle play out in 2024 while playing tons of shows all over the country is what we are looking forward to the most.”
The Disco Biscuits arrive at House of Blues - Boston on March 16th.
