Post Animal Release New Single, Announce Album 'IRON,' and Reveal Fall Tour
Indie rock band Post Animal released the mesmerizing new single "Last Goodbye" and announced that their new album IRON is out July 25. The song may be titled "Last Goodbye," but it marks the joyous reunion of the five-piece group with former bandmate Joe Keery, who originally departed to pursue acting projects and solo music under the moniker Djo. This era follows nearly a decade after all six original members worked together on music for Post Animal. The album cover features the band decked out in armor, representing the strength of their bond. "All of these creative forces coming together, it was like iron sharpening iron," shared member Dalton Allison in a press release. "When we're in proximity with one another, we make each other better."
It is clear their musical synergies picked up right where they left off, with rich soundscapes and melodies sprinkled throughout the song. The track considers how to navigate the uncomfortable and inevitable end of a flickering relationship. The opening line, "I don't dream what I dreamed back then / I just feel what I feel right now," explores what it means to live in the present and accept what happens as it comes. Elements like sparkling piano and harmonies in the chorus add an optimistic air to the track, and a banjo in the bridge adds country twang and charm.
Lyrics like "It's true I try to love every corner of your mind / But, we've been going off the deep end" and "But, we've been looking for a reason / And we're both patient / But, hеre we are again" explore an acute awareness of the situation. It can be challenging to grapple with the idea that a relationship built from moments and memories of love is ending, even if it is time. The guitar solo during the bridge makes this song the perfect nostalgic soundtrack for a late-night summer drive with the windows down. The outro pulls back the instrumental and features a plucked guitar, matching the emotional intimacy of the lyrical content. The song ends on its lowest musical note, perhaps mirroring how it feels to finally cut off a part of one's life.
The visualizer for "Last Goodbye" contains the album's ironclad armor aesthetic and follows a knight sitting by its lonesome by a flickering fire, contemplating the relationship.
Post Animal is currently on the road with Djo and will return for a headline tour this November, making a stop at Boston's The Sinclair on November 4. Sign up for presale here.
