Martin Barre, Founding Member of Jethro Tull
Excerpt from a conversation with Martin Barre. Martin is the musician best known for his longtime role as lead guitarist of British rock band Jethro Tull, with whom he recorded and toured from 1968 until the band's initial dissolution in 2011. Barre played on all of Jethro Tull's studio albums from 1969 to 2003. In the early 1990's he began a solo career and has recorded several albums as well as touring with his own live band.
MK - I attended a Jethro Tull show on the “Rock Island” tour and still consider it one of the best live performances I’ve seen from any band. Is there a particular tour that stands out to you, and why?
MB - Our latest live show is always aimed at being the best ever... we strive to make each tour a step forward musically and more powerful than the last. The early Tull tours were famous for their production and innovation and now I carry that banner forward with the Martin Barre Band.
MK - The anticipation is building for your upcoming live show at the City Winery Boston. The format sounds very interesting. What can your fans expect to see and hear at this event?
MB - We will have new ideas and change the format of songs... the new set list will be exciting, and we have the temporary return of drummer Darby Todd joining us for this tour only. We are very excited about this.
