All Eyes On Lawrence in Boston

All Eyes On Lawrence in Boston

"We like to do things, not because people tell us that it’s how it's always been done or what the industry standard is, but because it makes sense to us and feels fair to us and most importantly allows us to have the most authentic and honest connection with each and every one of you." - Clyde Lawrence

What started as Gracie and Clyde singing, writing, and performing songs together has become a lively and tight-knit eight-piece band. This June, the band dropped Family Business, an album boasting incredible vocals, playful lyrics, and vulnerable ballads. Guests spilled in when doors opened, either booking it to the pit or stopping in line to pick up some eye-catching merchandise, including bound chords and lyrics books for each of their albums. Soon, the preshow playlist blared in the speakers, with the cleverly selected “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge uniting the crowd in song while the Lawrence “L” logo bounced around the edges of the screens like the DVD logo screensaver.

Fans erupted with cheers when the lights finally dimmed. Gracie skipped out in a houndstooth blazer, skirt, sweater vest, and button-up shirt, with the band in matching blazers. Lawrence cleverly infused the office aesthetic into the wardrobe and set of the live show. Desks, file boxes, and name cards adorned the stage, creating an immersive fan experience. The crowd sported ties, plaid skirts, and button-up shirts to match, a sign of an enthusiastic and loyal fanbase.

The show was a masterclass in passion and joy, with Lawrence involving their fans whenever possible. They selected the surprise song “Freckles” via fan vote and taught the audience a three-part harmony to sing. Their energy was infectious, with each member bouncing around the stage for all 100 minutes of the show. About midway through the set, Lawrence slowed down the tempo and executed a raw performance of “Funeral,” a self-reflective track that left the room hushed in awe of their stage presence.

Lawrence ended the night with an explosive two-song encore, including “The Heartburn Song” and the Top 40 radio hit “Whatcha Want” The band delivered an emotional speech about their gratitude for being an independent band with such a fantastic audience. They thanked every member of their chosen family, highlighting the crew, band, and staff who made each show possible and inviting anyone who worked on the show out on stage. Gracie and Clyde’s mother sported a “Vote” tank top as Gracie easily hit the sustained high notes as if it was the first song of the night. The Family Business Tour was a celebration of live music. Lawrence’s theatrics and attention to detail created an unforgettable night for fans.
